01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
If you like to take your time choosing a rum-based drink, Bar Owl’s menu offers plenty of clues. Its classic mojito combines an original rum blend with lime, mint and homemade syrup. For something crisp, consider Mizumo, made with rum, soda and tonic water. Both put rum centre stage, but the mint and citrus in a mojito make for a different choice from Mizumo’s simple mixers.
For a sweeter option, try Copa Blanca, the bar’s take on a piña colada, with banana, pineapple, agricole rum and coconut sauce. The espresso martini is made with rum, homemade liqueur and espresso, offering another cocktail built around coffee flavour. Listed prices are 1,400 yen for Mizumo and 1,600 yen each for the mojito, Copa Blanca and espresso martini.
There are bottles of rum to compare, too. The menu includes selections from different regions and age statements, such as El Dorado from Guyana at 15 years and Appleton from Jamaica at 12 years. One diner said they were able to choose with help from the staff, despite not knowing much about rum; asking for advice based on your preferences may be part of the experience.
Bauru sandwiches are listed as a food option to enjoy alongside a cocktail. Bar Owl serves food and drink for dining in, and is open daily from 18:00 until 5:00 the following morning.
